YWCA TechGYRLS

TechGYRLS is a youth empowerment program aimed to increase the participation of young girls in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) fields. TechGYRLS cultivates an interest in STEAM and introduces girls to different career possibilities. It also aims to create confident young women prepared to bridge the digital divide. From building a fully functional computer to designing an interactive website, TechGYRLS are fully engaged in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics.

Results, Within each facet of the TechGYRLS curriculum, young girls not only gain new skills, confidence, and interest in STEAM tenets, but the program has dramatic, proven results. Girls who completed both the initial TechGYRLS semester and at least one additional module have all seen an increase in math and science scores, while almost a third of those participants have improved by two full letter grades. The program also keeps girls invested in learning – 87% percent of girls who enroll complete the initial semester, and 94% of those girls go on to additional TechGYRLS semesters.
