Project FOCUS (For Our Children's Ultimate Success) is an out-of-school collaboration consisting of five community learning center programs that implements mentoring, civic engagement, high adventure and academic enrichment activities. The mission of Project FOCUS is to produce quality, motivated citizens through safe and fun educational enrichment opportunities that will broaden the horizons of both the students and their community.
Based on similar socioeconomic characteristics, the community learning centers are located in Baldwin Community Schools (elementary and middle), Hart Community Schools, Hesperia Community Schools (combined elementary and middle), Walkerville Community Schools, and White Cloud Public Schools (elementary and middle), and are for first through eighth grade students in those districts. Project FOCUS receives funding through a 21st Century Learning Center grant from the Michigan Department of Education.
PACE (Partnerships, Academics, Community, Excellence) is an out-of-school collaboration of five community learning center programs that implement mentoring, civic engagement, high adventure, and academic enrichment activities.
The program is designed to bridge gaps for students and families by enabling them to access services and educational opportunities. Working together with the schools, PACE positively impacts families and helps to improve academic performance.
TrueNorth Community Services and the five school districts of Baldwin, Hart, Hesperia, Walkerville, and White Cloud are partnering together to provide programs designed for ninth through twelfth grades. Programs are geared towards encouraging students to excel through a diverse set of after-school programs and active involvement in the community. Goals include; maximizing student success via experiences in out-of-school time activities, increasing academic achievements via multiple academic supports, strengthening life skills and character assets via diverse enrichment outlets, and exposing students to career and college based opportunities. PACE receives funding through a 21st Century Learning Center grant from the Michigan Department of Education.
Project FOCUS and PACE's unique STEM component includes a "STEM Nation" Spring Break camp for all students, with strong encouragement toward female participants. Project FOCUS & PACE also offer Lego League Robotics and other STEM-related programming.
